Kid Chess tournaments are rapid re-paired, which means no waiting around between games. If you’re coming to play, that’s what you’ll do!
All Kid Chess tournaments are unrated events. If you or your child are ready for USCF rated tournaments, please visit Chess.Zone to find local all-ages events.

The 2025 Kid Chess Team Playoffs and Team Championship
Show your school pride off at the Kid Chess Team Playoffs. Open ONLY to students attending a school with a Kid Chess afterschool club & Suwanee Elementary, players will be able to compete against other schools to qualify for the Team Championship in May. Players do not need to be enrolled in a Kid Chess Club or program to compete. Space will be limited, so register early online here or call us for registration at 770-575-5802. Rated tournaments follow USCF rules and require USCF membership to attend. Please visit the United State Chess Federation for more information.
Unrated Regular Chess Tournaments
Usual tournament times and sections are: AM Section: 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (Check-in from 8:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.) PM Section: 1:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Check-in at 1:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m). Kid Chess Unrated Tournaments are rapid re-pair format, meaning students will playing their games with as little downtime between individual games as possible. Trophies awarded to all students with a plus score result. All other participants receive a medal.
Bughouse Tournaments
- All participants must have mastered how all the chess piece move to play.
- Bughouse scores are based on individual performance.
- Players will not have an assigned team and will rotate teammates through the tournament.
Regular Chess Tournaments
- All participants must have mastered how all the pieces move, understand how to castle, and be comfortable with checkmate to play.
- First Timer Tournaments are open to students who have not yet participated in a Kid Chess Regular Chess tournament before.
